Our Mission
Fukuoka was once an ancient gateway for the islands of Japan, where people exchanged goods and culture with the continent and beyond. Even today, Fukuoka Prefecture continues to play its role as a focal point that connects Japan and the rest of Asia. The numerous universities in Fukuoka have helped it to attract attention as a global and national human resource development hub and a core for personnel exchange in Asia. With a new era of advances in the globalization of economics, technological innovation and information, the need to take the initiative in attracting, fostering and producing diverse and highly-skilled human resources is increasingly important—not only for the development of each local community and Japan, but for all of Asia. The Fukuoka International Student Support Center (FiSSC), managed by an administrative council of people selected from academia, local municipalities, the business community and private international exchange associations, offers comprehensive support to international students. This support ranges from promotional activities overseas aimed at attracting international students to Japan, and assistance with living, interpersonal relations and employment while students attend school in Fukuoka, to post-graduation networking support. FiSSC contributes to the development of the diverse skills used by individuals to serve communities, and to producing talented individuals who will play active roles in the global arena while taking advantage of close ties with Fukuoka Prefecture.
